Friday Best (Some Prefer Sunday Best...I Like Friday)

This is a post dedicated to the best thing I've seen all week (and perhaps a recurring feature here). Too good to pass up?!? You be the judge. But sometimes, I want things just 'cuz they don't cost me nuttin'.
Oh, yea, Happy Labor Day weekend and all that jazz. Who wants to work, when people are giving stuff away for freakin' free?

The Case of the Beady-Eyed Binky Caper

We've had a little visitor the past few weeks. Miss Famous (codename: Scraps), our Brussels Griffon extraordinaire who receives far too much attention and is therefore far too demanding, has handled things pretty well. Or so we thought.

Little Max's binkies have slowly been disappearing...one here, another there...with little explanation or reason. Were we losing our minds? Were they lost in the mounds of bedding also known as Max's shrine? Was Max chucking them outside the stroller on our daily walk? Were aliens coming down and snatching them for scientific purposes?

Nay, I tell you. 'Twas the black-eyed Griffy with the pink tongue and whale of an attitude. Slowly, but ever so surely stealing them away unnoticed, and stashing them in her storehouse under the bed. She's a sly fox, that one. A saucy little minx! Very passive aggressive behavior. This dog lives up to her name times a factor of 10.
Case closed!

Reason #17 I Like Living Outside Manhattan

Laundry day. Because, is there anything, I ask you, more repulsive than sharing a laundry room with NY's whosits and whatsits? To be sure, I lived in a fine luxury building with a laundry on every floor. But still. Finding a foreign hair amongst your intimates? Grossity gross gross gross.

I lalalalove having my own clean, secure laundry room. Wherein I can be rest assured that my sweet nothings are cleaned to the highest standard with no intruders (ie., stray hairs, socks, wrappers, etc.). Not mingled in with the muckity muck muck of the communal laundry room.

Lovebirds

Dear Peeps,
You are so small.
Just big enough for skewering, roasting, and toasting.
That's all.

Sunshine In My Step

Lane and Brit's wedding was a beaming ray of sunshine at twilight. Perfectly presented and truly adorable down to the tiniest detail. A warm and cozy cashmere evening, filling the yard with beauties and lovelies to behold. Here's to you, Lane & Brit. Hip hip...HOORAY (x3)!

Floored

Well, actually it's walled, but you get the idea. I quite like these clever Wallter Hex wall applications. Customizable (the possibilities are endless) and easy to use (just peel and press), they're right up my alley. See more here.

For A Good Time, Call

15 of your closest girlfriends. Go out on the town for some late night fun. End up at a dueling piano bar. Sing along out loud. Wear feather boas. Dance on the tables (and the dueling pianos). Boo those who dare to think you are obnoxious (they're just jealous of all the fun you're having). End the night chatting on a street corner, realizing it's been far too long since you had such good, clean, sober fun. You won't regret it. I guarantee it.

Livs

One my NY BFF's (and sometimes SLC BFF), Olivia Birdsall, is such a good writer. I mean seriously. The type that makes you want to put your pen down and just give up because why try writing on your own, when you can read hers? I kid. But, honest to goodness, her book is great fun to read. She has such a unique and interesting way of telling stories and creating relationships.

Anyhooter (as she would say), she's doing a book reading and signing with Louise Plummer (who is equally awesome and I had the pleasure of sharing a delightful cupcake with once) tomorrow at Gateway Barnes & Noble in SLC at 7 p.m. You should go just for the signing alone. Olivia writes just about the most clever and hysterical notes to people. If you can't go tomorrow, pick up her book next time you're down there. Sometimes she leaved signed treasures on the bookshelves for those lucky enough to snatch them up.
If you're still not sold, Your Heart Out has done a great write up on her recently. You can get to know her better there, and then ask about her Tina Turner aspirations when you meet her in person tomorrow. Go ahead, she won't bite. And she'll probably have a good story to tell.

Nebraska: Farms and New Friends

As we were cruising along, I had to stop and make friends with these mini horses. They were fierce little fillies (though not nearly as aggressive as Mini for all you Rob & Big fans). I was a bit frightened by them, but eventually we all settled down and became friends. This was my first encounter with mini horses, and I daresay it won't be my last.

Iowa: Fields of Opportunities

It may as well be called the corn corridor. I don't know how else to explain it. Hundreds of miles, hours at a time, whizzing by corn fields. Corn, corn, corn, far reaching to the horizon line. Both sides of the road. For hours. I could barely wrap my head around the amount of corn that I saw. This may sound corny, but there was so much of it and it got so bad that I could identify the differences and similarities between different types of corn. Yes, there are lots and lots and lots of different types of corn. At least 50 that I saw.

Illinois: Miles of Mississippi

We took a detour on a small winding road that snaked the Mississippi River for miles and miles. Larger than large, wide, and seeming a lazy river with lily pads and marshes along its banks, boats gliding across its surface, and bridges zig zagging and criss crossing its waters.

Michigan: After My Own Heart

Don't you just lalalalove it already? Michigan is a place I hold dear to my heart. My former home always tugs at my heartstrings a bit and makes me yearn for more. Miles and miles of awe inspiring rusty red barns with gleaming metal tops set agains robins egg blue skies. I'm telling you, Michigan is where it's at. Whatever it is.

Canyon Cookout

I dare you to defy these delicious fresh picked peaches coated in butter, brown sugar and cinnamon, about to be doused in vanilla cake batter.

Ohio: Purple Skies

Drove through Ohio on an overcast day. I like the bold, yet muted tones in this photo. Cashmere gray skies, buttercream yellow old timey house, and the greenest green grass. We made stops in Kirtland, Cleveland, and Toledo.
